It is difficult for us to remember sometimes that there is hunger in Houston among the poor, among the refugees, among the children. Margie Randall serves among those who have great need. She is especially thankful for those who give to the Texas Baptist Hunger Fund, as this provides some means for her to meet these needs.
An Update from Margie, October 2015
October was such a blessing. God helped us with English conversation classes among the residents in an apartment complex where residents primarily have had little exposure to the Good News. On Saturday, Sylvia and I did surveys for management and saw how the people live. The children (these families have many) were all outside with no warm winter clothing. So, we decided to take some hoodies next time we have class and distribute them to our students.
Also, I have a M. family at St. Cloud that I learned did not have food in the house. The mother has 3 children all under school age, the father is working 18 hours per day and going to school. The mother does not drive, so she was facing taking those three children across a busy street to buy groceries. I knew the children were hungry but did not know why. I bought groceries for her, and now there is a volunteer to stay with her children so she can buy groceries once per week.
Yesterday another family came. The 11 year old was asking for food (not sure how I understood it) and does not speak English. She said her mother was ill. So, loaded her up on some cereal donated from Katy schools that the kids throw away each week.
Another mother who speaks some English said she had no food stamps. She has two children and she took anything I could give her, mostly rice and lentils. I could tell she was desperate. Since she can get around easily, gave her a gift card to fiesta and Sally and team gave her fresh produce one Saturday in the rain.
I have just been told that another apartment complex is wanting food delivered. I am not sure yet what that means, but may have to look at joining Houston Food bank. That apartment complex used to have lots of refugees.
Thank God for those who give to the Hunger Fund.
