Spiritual Foundations

Strong spiritual foundations, both individually and congregationally, are the first step toward congregational health.

UBA offers four sessions designed to further your understanding and practice of the spiritual disciplines and enhance your ability to implement these in your own life and the life of your congregation or small group. These sessions are for pastors, church staff, ministry leaders, and any individual who wants to develop a deeper relationship with Christ.

Krissi Vandagriff - EnneagramEnneagram

July 11, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at the UBA Offices

Krissi Vandagriff, MSW from Baylor University, was first introduced to the Enneagram in 2012 under the direction of Suzanne Stabile from Life in the Trinity Ministries. Since that time, she has continued to deepen her personal understanding and application of the Enneagram. She has taught the Enneagram on several occasions in small group sessions, leading participants to more fully understand themselves, how they view the world, and how they respond to life in times of joy and success as well as in times of stress and sorrow.

The Enneagram is a tool that can lead people to more deeply understand themselves and how they relate to others, to God, and to the world around them . The Enneagram was recently featured in the annual Q Conference in Nashville.

Through the exploration of nine personality types, the Enneagram can be used to encourage not only personal spiritual growth in your congregation but can also foster deeper, stronger inter-personal relationships within the community of faith. Whether you are seeking a deeper understanding of your own inner workings or a clearer understanding of the diverse ways in which others perceive the world, this seminar is for you.

Fee: $12. (Early Bird Fee $8, through June 30.) To pay online, please register through our Eventbrite site here.

Devotional PracticesPractices

August 17 - 9:00 am - Noon

In this practical, hands-on session, you can explore a variety of practices to strengthen your relationship with God through personal and corporate devotional times. Practices include these and others.

  • Lectio Divino (a practice of deeply reflecting on the meaning and application of scripture);
  • Labyrinths and where to find them in Houston (a physical practice of journeying with God);
  • Experiencing the Creator through appreciating the beauty of creation;
  • Artful Prayer (using creative art, hymns, music, paintings, etc. to connect deeply with God);
  • Contemplative Prayer (allowing God to communicate with us during a period of thoughtful silence).
  • Journaling

As we take a brief look at a number of devotional practices, Erika Hughes Brunson (facebook) will be a special guest that day sharing her experiences and perspectives on experiencing God through art; Sally Hinzie will share how the practice of journaling has been meaningful to her.

Enjoy Erika's art on display in the UBA Offices during June, July & August.
