Let’s Invest in a Gospel Footprint in the Heights

UBA has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish a presence in the Heights, where gospel footprints have been rapidly disappearing.

As property values in the Heights skyrocket, historic churches are being replaced by residential developments, often silencing the gospel witness in one of Houston’s most influential neighborhoods. Reclaiming a gospel footprint in this strategic neighborhood is something I’ve been praying to see for years.

So, UBA is moving to acquire the former Norhill Baptist Church (3600 Michaux St.) at a substantial discount. We would use this 26,000 sq. ft. facility as a church-plant incubator, providing them with a worship space, 40 reserved parking spots, and the resources to grow through their most fragile early years.

This is a tremendous opportunity for UBA and the Kingdom. It is also the most audacious move that UBA has made in decades, possibly in a century.

The church property is assessed for about $6 million, but the owner loves the idea of it being a church once again and is willing to take less than fair market value. In addition to the proceeds from selling our offices at TC Jester, UBA needs to raise about $3 million to acquire the building and perform renovations.

Details:

  • Total Project Cost: $6M (includes acquisition and renovation).

  • UBA’s Commitment: We are selling our current offices to cover $3M.

  • The Need: We must raise $3M to secure this property.

This isn’t just about real estate; it’s about ensuring a permanent place for the gospel in the heart of our city.

How to Partner:

  • Pray for God’s leading and the details to take on this project
