September Prayer Guide

For Russia

September 3-14, we will be praying for the team of volunteers who are traveling to Russia: Sally Hinzie, Leonard Hinzie, David Cessna, Leah Cessna, and Dayne Laas. Here's a guide of how you can pray for them.

Tuesday, September 3Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20—Pray for the team as we travel today and tomorrow. Pray our luggage makes it through all connections

Wednesday, September 4—If I rise up on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalm 139:9-10—Pray that our entry into the country will be smooth and all of our luggage will be allowed through with no problems. Safe travel on our 8 hour bus ride to Nizhniy Novgorod.

Thursday, September 5You will look about you and take your rest in safety.  Job 11:18b—Please claim this scripture over us as there are changes in Russian law and view of the church. 

Friday, September 6—For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Ephesians 2:9—We will be speaking in the rehab centers in the city tonight. Please pray as we share the gospel.

Saturday, September 7Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.  Luke 10:7a—Today we will travel about an hour to to share with the rehab and church in Gorodets. We often share a meal with them at the rehab. 

Sunday, September 8Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Psalm 100:4a—Praise His name with us – today we will worship with 3 services at Cornerstone Church – in Russian!!!  We will also be the speakers in every service. 

Monday, September 9By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.  Psalm 42:8—Pray that our team is able to rest and relax on this free day. Give thanks for the long time friends who will extend hospitality to us.

Tuesday, September 10–Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel. Ephesians 6:19—Claim this Scripture for us as we once again share with the rehab centers in the city.

Wednesday, September 11As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it. Luke 19:41—Our last day in the city – traveling around for our last goodbye for this trip. Our hearts break over the lostness we have seen. Pray for Nizhniy Novgorod.

 

Thursday, September 12—Indeed, he who watches of Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Psalm 121:4—Pray for safe travels and opportunities along the way again. Today we are traveling by bus back to Moscow.

Friday, September 13For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:15 —Today we are sightseeing around Moscow. Please pray we fulfill this scripture as we move around the city. 

Saturday, September 14For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14—As you pray for our safe journey home, please claim this scripture as a promise over Russia!


For Muslims

Pray that believers in Houston will extend friendship to the Muslim families and students in their neighborhoods and demonstrate the welcoming love of Christ. Pray that these bridges will help many come to know Jesus as their Savior.

Houston is home to the first Spanish-language Muslim mosque. Pray that members of Hispanic churches will become equipped to share their faith and Christ’s love in ways that are meaningful to Muslims.

Encountering the World of Islam begins September 17th. Pray that those who participate in this 16-week experience will deepen their understanding of the Muslim worldview and prepare themselves to meaningfully share Christ’s love with others.


For Church Planters

Pray for UBA Church Consultant Victor Marte and the eight church planters that he has enlisted to participate in the Center for Church Planting. Pray that they will be equipped to plant churches that reach diverse populations and communities with the news of Christ’s love.

  3. Pray for church planter Manuel Cruz as he attends the Center for Church Planting and prepares to plant a church. His mentor/pastor is Victor Marte of Iglesia Bautista la Tierra Prometida.

  4. Pray for church planter Florentino Rangel as he attends the Center for Church Planting and prepares to plant a church. His mentor/pastor is Livan Quintana of Clear Creek Baptist Church.

  5. Pray for church planter Juan M Rosado as he attends the Center for Church Planting and prepares to plant a church. His mentor/pastor is Miguel Rosado of Iglesia Bautista en Dios Confiamos.

  6. Pray for church planter Oscar Figueroa as he attends the Center for Church Planting and prepares to plant a church. His mentor/pastor is Joshua Lazo of Iglesia Bautista Beersheba.

  7. Pray for church planter Jose Trevino as he attends the Center for Church Planting and prepares to plant a church. His mentor/pastor is Abel Aguirre of Iglesia Cristiana Fortaleza y Esperanza.

For Our Association

Pray for these members of the recently re-activated UBA Foundation Board as they begin their service on the board: Craig Hester, Houston’s First; Jim Doremus, Ecclesia West; Brandon Webb, Westbury; Roger Bridgwater Crosspoint; John Morgan, Sagemont; Greg Wallace, Woodridge, Kingwood.

Iglesia Evangelica Vida en Cristo and Pastor Andres Roberto Cerda are new members of UBA. Pray blessing and unity for their fellowship, and pray that God would use them mightily to advance the gospel in their community and beyond.

Pray for Pastor Julio Barquero of Segunda Iglesia Bautista El Calvario as he leads this congregation to share the gospel of Christ’s love with the community.

Butch and Nell Green need volunteers to deliver Thanksgiving Baskets to refugees here in the city. Pray for the refugees to know that God loves them and provides for them. Pray for enough volunteers to deliver the baskets to the families and how God might be leading you to assist. To volunteer,  contact Nell at bgreen@cbf.net.

Pray for the families of those who have been killed by gun violence by any means whether suicide, murder or accidental. Pray for wise solutions to reduce gun violence in the US.
