En los Estados Unidos, es muy común encontrar iglesias anglo con ministerios hispanos. Lamentablemente, en mi experiencia estos ministerios hispanos en un promedio más alto que el que quisiera admitir, terminan en un estado de lo que yo llamo "esquizofrenia estructural." Es cuando la identidad del ministerio se pierde, y ya no se sabe si son un ministerio o una iglesia autónoma.
Un Caso Real
Este era el caso del ministerio hispano de Clear Lake Baptist Church. El ministerio formó parte de la iglesia anglo por muchos años, pero a la misma vez actuaba como una entidad semi-autónoma, con misión, visión y estructura administrativa y liderazgo, diferente a la iglesia madre. (En un futuro artículo trataré los síntomas y consecuencias de este problemas)
Después de una serie de problemas y retos, el pastor principal de Clear Lake Baptist y el nuevo pastor del ministerio hispano, con mediación de la UBA, decidió que lo mejor para ambos grupos era establecer el ministerio hispano como una iglesia autónoma.
“Ver nacer la Iglesia Bautista Vida en Cristo me recuerda que la obra de redención no terminó en la cruz, continúa con nosotros.”
La major parte de los problemas del ministerio hispano surgieron producto de la "esquizofrenia estructural" que por años gobernó este ministerio. Uno no puede apretar un botón y borrar la cultura de una iglesia, no es tan fácil como simplemente comenzar, era necesario terminar para comenzar bien.
Con la ayuda de un equipo formado por miembros del ministerio hispano, el nuevo pastor del ministerio, un pastor de una iglesia vecina y yo como representante de la UBA, nos dimos a la tarea de descubrir a profundidad las áreas deficientes del ministerio hispano, discernir una visión y misión para la nueva iglesia y establecer una estructura funcional que facilitará el ministerio. Después de un poco más de un año, en medio de la pandemia y cantidades de reuniones virtuales, nació la Iglesia Bautista Vida en Cristo.
Nuevo Comienzo
El domingo 28 de abril fue el lanzamiento oficial de la nueva iglesia. Ese día me otorgaron el privilegio de compartir la Palabra de Dios y retar a la nueva iglesia. Mientras preparaba y meditaba en el sermón el Señor dirigió mi atención a este pensamiento: “el final de un glorioso comienzo.”
Ese día culminó el ministerio hispano para dar a luz una nueva iglesia con la misión de glorificar a Dios, “ Alcanzando a TODOS con el evangelio” misión que impulsa a la iglesia que recién inicia con la dirección del pastor Livan Quintana.
“La Cruz era un final pero no el de la historia de redención para la humanidad en su totalidad; este solo era el final del comienzo.”
Esa semana comenzaba la celebración de la semana santa, donde la mayoría de los creyentes alrededor del mundo somos llevados a la reflexión y análisis de la expiación, muerte y resurrección de Cristo.
Decidí enfocar mi atención "al final del inicio" que dio lugar nuestro Señor en la cruz del calvario, luego de sudar sangre, llorar y clamar al Padre para que pasara esa copa a la vez sometiendo su voluntad a la de Él por amor, expresó en la cruz: “Consumado es,” y expiró.
Para la humanidad que presenciaba este acontecimiento solo indicaba el final de una linda historia de redención. No estando equivocados del todo pudiéramos decir que ciertamente era un final pero no el de la historia de redención para la humanidad en su totalidad, este solo era el final del comienzo.
Jesus dio órdenes precisas a sus discípulos que no salieran de Jerusalén, pues necesitaban ser equipados para dar continuidad a la labor que había comenzado en la Cruz y resurrección.
“Hasta el día en que fue recibido arriba, después de haber dado mandamientos por el Espíritu Santo a los apóstoles que había escogido; a quienes también, después de haber padecido, se presentó vivo con muchas pruebas indubitables, apareciéndoseles durante cuarenta días y hablándoles acerca del reino de Dios. Y estando juntos, les mandó que no se fueran de Jerusalén, sino que esperaran la promesa del Padre, la cual, les dijo, oísteis de mí. Porque Juan ciertamente bautizó con agua, mas vosotros seréis bautizados con el Espíritu Santo dentro de no muchos días.”

“Iniciamos ministerios, comenzamos iglesia porque la Cruz fue solo el final de un glorioso comienzo.”
Ver nacer la Iglesia Bautista Vida en Cristo me recuerda que la obra de redención no terminó en la cruz, continúa con nosotros. Cada creyente tiene la responsabilidad de dar continuidad al plan maravilloso de redención que nuestro Señor inició.
Adelante iglesia Bautista Vida en Cristo, adelante iglesia del señor, proclamamos a TODOS el evangelio glorioso de nuestro Señor Jesús, iniciamos ministerios, comenzamos iglesia porque la Cruz fue solo el final de un glorioso comienzo.
The End of a Glorious Beginning

In the United States, it is very common to find Anglo churches with Hispanic ministries. Unfortunately, in my experience, these Hispanic ministries have a higher average of failure than I would like to admit. They end up in a state of what I call "structural schizophrenia." This happens when the identity of the ministry is lost, and they no longer know if they are a ministry or an autonomous church.
A Case Study
This was the case with Clear Lake Baptist Church's Hispanic ministry. The ministry was part of the Anglo church for many years, but it simultaneously acted as a semi-autonomous entity. It has it’s own mission, vision, and administrative and leadership structure that was different from the mother church. (In a future article, I will discuss the symptoms and consequences of this problem)

After a series of problems and challenges, Clear Lake Baptist senior pastor and the new Hispanic ministry pastor decided, through UBA mediation, that the best thing for both groups was to establish the Hispanic ministry as an autonomous church.
Most of the Hispanic ministry problems arose as a result of the "structural schizophrenia" that for years ruled this ministry. One cannot push a button and erase the culture of a church. It is not as easy as just getting started; you also need to finish in order to start well.
With the help of the UBA (myself as a representative), a team of members of the Hispanic ministry, the new pastor of the ministry, and a pastor from a neighboring church, we undertook the task of discovering in depth the deficient areas of the Hispanic ministry. We also discerned a vision and mission for the new church, and establish a functional structure that would facilitate ministry.
After a little over a year, in the midst of the pandemic and lots of virtual meetings, Iglesia Bautista Vida en Cristo was born.
New Beginnings
Sunday, April 28 was the official launch of the new church. That day, they gave me the privilege of sharing the Word and challenging the new church. As I prepared and meditated on the sermon, the Lord directed my attention to this thought: "The end of a glorious beginning"
That day culminated in the Hispanic ministry giving birth to a new church with the mission of glorifying God. "Reaching EVERYONE with the gospel" is the mission that drives the church which just started under the direction of Pastor Livan Quintana.
We began the celebration of Holy Week, where most of the believers around the world are led to reflection and analysis of the atonement, death, and resurrection of Christ. I decided to focus my attention at the “end of the beginning" that our Lord began on the cross of Calvary.
“The Cross was certainly an end—but not of the redemption story for humanity as a whole. This was only the end of the beginning. ”
After sweating blood and crying out to the Father to pass that cup, Jesus also submitting his will to the Father’s. Out of love, he expressed on the cross: "It is finished," and died.
For the people witnessing that event, it seemed to be the end of a beautiful story of redemption. This is not completely wrong. We could say that it was certainly an end—but not of the redemption story for humanity as a whole. This was only the end of the beginning.
Jesus gave precise orders to his disciples not to leave Jerusalem, as they needed to be equipped to continue the work that had begun on the cross and with his resurrection.
“Until the day he was received upstairs, after having given commandments by the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen; To whom also, after suffering, he presented himself alive with many indubitable proofs, appearing to them for forty days and speaking to them about the kingdom of God. And being together, he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he told them, you heard from me. For John certainly baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. " Acts 1: 2-5 KJV
“Start ministries and start churches, because the Cross was only the end of a glorious beginning.”
Seeing the birth of Iglesia Bautista Vida en Cristo reminds me that the work of redemption did not end on the cross; it continues with us. Each believer has the responsibility to continue the wonderful plan of redemption that our Lord initiated on the cross.
Go, Iglesia Bautista Vida en Cristo. Go, Church of the Lord, proclaim to ALL the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus. Start ministries and start churches, because the Cross was only the end of a glorious beginning.
