Gap Year Program for Next Gen Feeling Called to Missions
Marie Burrus interviews a local high school graduate embarking on a life-changing experience through the International Mission Board's (IMB) Nehemiah Teams 365 Gap Year Program.
R. knew she was being called to the nations, but she wasn’t sure what to do next. With just a few clicks on the IMB website, she was connected with a helpful liaison to guide her through the process of exploring and preparing to go. That initial contact set her on the path to a year-long commitment to serve in the Asia Pacific Rim.
Her trip begins with training, followed by short-term assignments in two additional countries, and concludes with a six-month residency. Throughout the process, she’s seen God open doors—from quick acceptance into the program to the support and resources for fundraising the $12,500 needed for the trip.
R. is most excited about meeting her team and engaging in cross-cultural ministry. She hopes the year will clarify her sense of calling and build lasting relationships while equipping her with mission skills that can impact every area of her life. She asks for prayers for her spiritual preparation, team unity, and the people they will serve.
This program is designed for young adults from 18–23 who want to take a purposeful gap year, explore missions, and discern their next steps in gospel ministry.
Her story is an excellent reminder that opportunities for global impact are accessible—and sometimes just a click away.
