College “Critters” Learn and Serve on Mission in Houston

Since Mission Centers of Houston's earliest days with Ms. Mac, we have hosted missionaries each summer from colleges around the country to join us in serving in programs, outreaches, and ministry activities. It is one of the bright spots of our year and a real privilege to steward and witness the growth and development in each college student as they join us in serving our city.

We love welcoming in our interns each summer, and this month we received the newest group - Say hello to the MCH Critters of summer 2026!

For the duration of the summer, our interns will serve in teams at each of our three centers. We train them to be the hands and feet of Jesus strategically and carefully as they immerse themselves in our programs and activities for nine weeks.

To ensure those teams are well-rounded and thoughtfully formed, we put the “Critters” through a fun evaluation day to get to know them better. The aim is to learn more about them and their strengths so we can make informed decisions about the team and location.

This year's evaluation day was tons of fun, as it was a 'combine'-style operation that included a team strategy activity, creative individual impromptu presentations, and a challenge course race to cap it all off. After completing all of the activities throughout the morning, we all headed to the bowling alley to reveal the teams and spend some time in fellowship with our new groups!

The Gano, Joy, and Compassion Center teams became well acquainted and began orienting themselves to their leaders and specific contexts during time spent at the bowling alley.

We could not be more excited to see these teams make a difference for the sake of the gospel this summer across the ministries of Mission Centers of Houston.

Ways to Pray:

  • For God's work in our efforts to meet the marginalized in our communities with Christ's love

  • For the strength, service, and unity of our intern teams in all their work

It is such a joy to continue in this incredible critter ministry all these years after its inauguration. What a kick-off to summer ministry we have had so far. We can't wait to see how God moves in and through these kids this summer!

Mission Centers of Houston is UBA’s local mission subsidiary aimed at meeting the physical and spiritual needs of marginalized people throughout Greater Houston.
